Current club members will advance through the Ratings Advancement Process outlined below. Players must play with their current skill rating level during club play times (with the exception of those participating in the Ratings Advancement Process).
New club members with NO pickleball experience will be classified as N in the directory and are welcome to play in the D skill level. While not required, it is strongly encouraged new players attend the Pickleball Academy to learn the basics of the game and meet our club instructors and other new players. New club members WITH pickleball experience will follow the Ratings Advancement Process outlined below.
RATINGS ADVANCEMENT PROCESS:
Club Instructors:
Ratings Committee Chair:
1. Register for a ratings assessment and choose the instructor that you’d like to work with by using the email address shown above. Be sure to include your complete contact information in your email. There will be no fees associated with the assessment or the challenge observation. The selected instructor will contact you to set up your assessment.
2. Upon completion of your assessment, the instructor will either advance you to the next phase of the process, or give you feedback on the skills that you need to work on to be successful at the next level (you can work on these skills on your own or grab a lesson or join a clinic at your expense)
3. If advanced to the next phase, you will be added to the higher Skill Level GroupMe and have up to 30 days to play before scheduling your challenge observation (while play-up time is recommended, it ’s not required….you may opt to go directly to your challenge observation.) Player is responsible for coordinating challenge observation with instructor prior to the end of the 30 day play-up period. During the challenge observation phase, your instructor will either set-up a time for observed play or observe your play during your play up time. If your instructor feels you are ready to play permanently in this level, you will be left in that Skill Level GroupMe and your club rating will be updated in the Wild Apricot directory. If your instructor feels you need a little more time, they will provide you feedback on what you need to work on prior to trying again.

Leveling down: If a player is recovering from a medical condition they may request to play down while under doctor’s care. They must make a temporary play-down request to the Ratings Committee Coordinator (rrpb.ratings@gmail.com) prior to playing down. Once recovered and released by their doctors, they will return to their original skill rated group. If a player decides to permanently level down, a request must be made to the Ratings Committee Coordinator. Once moved down, the player must go through the Ratings Advancement Process to move back up to the higher skill level.
